About the Artist

Painting as a way of perceiving

Polina Vasilovskaya, portrait

Polina Vasilovskaya (b. 1997) is a contemporary artist based in Warsaw, Poland. Born in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, she moved to Poland at eighteen and graduated from the Polish National Film School (PWSFTiT) in Łódź with a degree in Animation Film Directing. She went on to work as a video artist for international theatre productions before returning to painting as her primary language.

Her paintings explore the limits of perception — extreme close-ups, optical illusions, and the brief moments when reality seems to shift. Rather than depicting objects, she is interested in the feeling that appears just before the mind gives a name to what it sees.

"If a work can touch someone's soul, even for a moment, and remind them that they have one, it has already fulfilled its purpose."

Layering is central to her process — while painting, she loses all sense of time, letting each layer guide the next. She has presented two solo exhibitions in Warsaw, where she lives and works today.

Animation & Stage Work

Motion, projection & live performance

Alongside painting, Polina works as a video artist and animator, trained in Animation Film Directing at the Polish National Film School (PWSFTiT) in Łódź. She has created video art and projection design for international theatre productions, bringing the same interest in perception, layering and movement to the stage.

  • Projection design & video art for theatre
  • Animation for live performance
  • Motion design rooted in a painter's eye for texture and layering

Currently developing an immersive exhibition that unites painting and animation into a single environment — reach out to collaborate or to be kept informed.

Layered textures in warm ivory and stone tones, accented by a vertical flow of charcoal and smoky gray. Calm, balanced, quietly sophisticated.
